Mobil-tv och umts-900 på agendan när telekomministrar möts

Vid dagens ministermöte i Bryssel kommer EU:s 27 telekomministrar bland annat att diskutera mobil-tv och umts på 900 MHz-bandet. Det framgår av ett memorandum från EU-kommissionen.

När det gäller mobil-tv så handlar diskussionerna om att man vill få ministermötet att anta kommissionens förslag att anta DVB-H som officiell EU-standard till våren.

Vid ministermötet vill man även göra det enklare att få använda 900 MHz-bandet för alternativa mobilsystem som till exempel umts.

"Broad support by Member States is expected for the repeal of the GSM Directive, which also requires the approval of the European Parliament. Once repealed the Directive will be simultaneously replaced by a Commission decision (based on the Radio Spectrum Decision) to allow the use of the valuable 900 MHz band for new innovative wireless communications systems such as UMTS (provides 3rd generation mobile broadband services) while preserving the continued operation of GSM", skriver EU-kommissionen i sitt memorandum.
